Knights only ever have adventures

---------This post's title was given to me by Isaac :) ---------

This weekend we made Peppermint Creams. They were something I remember doing from long winters past and for the numerous Girl Guide fairs I attended. They are just as sickly sweet as I remember and actually after eating about six 50p size pieces last night I woke up today with an enourmous headache, hangover style. Still, they look pretty and taste so too for at least the first mouthful. They will be sorted into little bundles for upcoming birthdays (much to the utter delight of their parents I'll bet :) ).

Here's Isaac on Saturday at 8am, slient field outside our house, cruching the ice puddles - the best sound ever he thinks!

Look at this writing! I am so impressed!

Isaac made me the wooden spoon here (Felix turned his into a dog). He said my others just were not pretty enough and I needed a beautiful one to cook with. I now have something beautiful to look whilst I cook!

Every boy needs a secret place in which to listen to story tapes (or Johnny Cash the favourite of the moment) undisturbed whilst scanning his Where's Wally books. This is Isaac's. Also has the option of curtains for extra secrecy and an easy open window for quick get aways.

Little brother likes to copy so here he is across the room:

Today the air was still without frost or wind and perfect for a day out. We three decided to go on an adventure. We each took a backpack with binoculous, paper and pens - Felix also took some knight figures, just in case, you never know when the opportunity to play with them might happen. We first saw 'treasure and gold' in a big cage whilst at the bank cashing cheques. We played on an enourmous 'Pirate ship' which was the entire playpark and bandits stole our loot so we ended up walking to the beach to dig for more. But once there had to build a new castle for some lost knights.

This is Felix exactly. He is doing his mock angry look that turns into giggles in about five seconds.

Knights: Yes Felix is wearing a floral dres (it's a 'tunic' don't you know!) Isacc asked for dressing up clothes and after suggesting a few things I said - knights tunic? Tunic it is then mother , let us go and hunt this treasure out! I just love the way this boy is so funny and dramatic in his own lighthearted way :)

Pebbles collected from the beach and ready to paint - magic afternoon sun!

Tagged - Six wierd things

IslandMumma 'tagged' me. From her blog I see this means I must tell you all six wierd things about myself. Where to start though, there are shed loads more than six.... I rather like to do these self indulgent types of posts, so humour me, or else stop reading my blog :) Having a blog is in itself one entirley self indulgent thing though so I guess one post is nothing.

1. I like to clean my house. Really. It is theraputic, sort of self cleansing (well I'll stick to that - sounds better than being anal) but I think I do it in five muinute bits here and there throughout the day rather than saying 'Tuesday is cleaning day!'. That would be a really organised and routine thing to do, of which I don't like (routine that is).

2. For the past few days I have been wearing PJ's under my day time clothes. I am like an evacuee wearing all of my clothes at once. I have this bulky look going on. But you know, it is super cold here and really I have not seen anyone other than my childen and Don lately. On the plus side, it makes stripping off for bed easy peasy.

3. I love sucking on an ice lolly whilst lying in a hot hot bath (and reading a book at the same time) my favourite would be red grape and apple combo from my own molds. I did this every night with Isaac in the last month of my pregnancy with Felix. It was lovely.

4. I made this treasure basket up http://www.contentedchild.co.uk/basketandcontents-sml.JPG and yet I have no one to give it too. It just looked cute!

5. Mostly I am afraid to sing in anyone's company other than my children's, with them I blast away. They are very freeing company.

6. I don't like ice cream. What's the big deal anyway?

Socks and tables

So I am knitting at the moment (for a change and in between bouts of Spinning - I have a lovely black fleece that I am washing, drying, carding and then finally spinning in small batches) I am knitting a jumper for each of the boys for thier March Birthday's, a pair of socks for myself, a pair for my FIL and a hat from sari silk. I finished two pairs of socks for Felix last week and here is he modelling (in his own particular way!) one of those pairs:

Don walked in on me in the kitchen cooking dinner just now and fiddling with the camera. Well lets sit down and eat shall we? I say. So I turn and then realise no, there is no way we can actually *sit* at this table! Is this how other people's kitchen tables look at the end of the day? Where to put this stuff when it is time to sit.... Mmmm I think I need a duplicate table for the 'bits and bobs'.

Afternoon beach

A break in the cold and rain of our Winter meant we could visit the beach without the wind scouring our cheeks or the rain flashing silver bullets at our noses. These photos were taken by Don, Isaac and myself. This beach was one cove of a seaside resort closed for the winter and fishing taken over. Old Welsh ladies in voluminous print housedresses and old men braced against the cold in hand knit sweaters and flat caps take refuge in the one town cafe where smoke mingles with last summers ice cream (we know cos' we bought some).

The boys face painted each other and the remains of a lopsided mustache can be seen on Felix and Isaac's unsmudged cat whiskers show in the two o'clock light. Yeah, this is early afternoon and already daylight is sliding away.

Christmas Eve frost

Christmas Eve, we had this amazing frost, 7am I ran outside with my big sheepskin coat over my PJ's to collect in some frozen flat washing from the line and then danced with the cold back out with my camera. In every direction it was so pretty in the way that frost makes magic. The whole day really had that elusive and pregnant pause feeling - the in breathe before the exhalation that is Christmas day.
