mud larks

The garden suddenly is so vivid green it stings the eyes into happiness. Late last night as the rain stopped everyone piled into the stream for some playing around.

The st.johns wort is profuse already and the comfrey I thought trodden to death by workmen last year has grown back. I transplanted this last summer from a friend's garden, I am going to split this bit too in the hopes of having a big comfrey patch one day.

This girl may be a terror inside but outside she is a gem, busy bee and 'butter-flower' (as she calls butterflies). So absorbed. It is so nice. So we spend lots of time outside. Which certainly beats the indoor mayhem she is liable to create otherwise.

The chooks seem happy in their freedom. Still no eggs tho from the broodies.

We had some wood delivered yesterday while my dh was away and today he is overwhelmed by the prospect of dealing with it all. A bargain we snapped up in conversation with a farmer while out on a walk (an organic sheep farmer, who 'branched up' this lot the winter before last. Honestly farmers are like a whole other species of human.... with their own language and gestures and everything.) Very daunting amount in the flesh though. I imagine the chainsaw will be buzzing in my poor man's dreams by tonight. Esmé thought it all rather fun tho :)

Radishes and nearly-strawberry flowers? My oh my. How amazing.

Happy May-Day!

love all your pics as usual, is that stream at the bottom of your garden?, your lucky if it is. Also can't believe you have flowers coming on your strawberries already!

The stream runs right through the middle of our garden, it's a couple of metres from the front door. We have a little bridge because half the garden (the veg patch and swing and hammock etc) are all on one side, house and drive and chickens etc on the other. I love it! The sound of the running water is constantly my anchor when things get rough, and also it's a good place for children to cool off and have a break from the rest of life.

Re: Esmé and freedom... hmmmm what can I say except that she would have it no other way, she is a challenging person. Her brothers were a doddle in comparison. Outdoors though given space and her own lead she is much a nicer person to be around! That sounds harsh but it's pretty true.
